Electrifying Bradfield

Electrifying Bradfield is about doing what we can to support adoption of renewable energy within the Upper North Shore. We have a vision of a cleaner, cheaper energy future made possible by the electrification of our  houses and transport. This vision is heavily influenced by Saul Griffiths and 'Rewiring Australia'.

Electrifying Bradfield works mainly using volunteer time. Contributing $50 goes a long way to helping us run solar information nights, attend markets and fairs and provide educational materials.

Note that Electrifying Bradfield is a not-for-profit, although not a certified charity (DGR).

* Australia's Clean Energy Council last week announced figures for the amount of electric power provided to the national electricity grid from household  rooftop solar generation!

* Results demonstrate the rapidly increasing role that household rooftop solar is playing in powering Australia!

* There are now more than 3 million of Australia's 11 million households with rooftop solar panels! The large majority of these are houses due to the continuing difficulties of installing rooftop solar on apartment buildings!

* Premier of NSW, Chris Minns, has not followed A.C.T. or Victoria in a state-wide banning of gas connections BUT local innovative Councils are using  their Development Control Plans [DCPs] to ban new gas connections to households/apartments and other buildings!

* Climate change action group 350.org are working directly with local councils to advise and support them in achieving the bans.

* Yesterday I had my 20,000 Kilometre service on my MG ZV Electric car! - with a very, very pleasant surprise!!

* The cost of the entire service -  $280.00 !!

* That's a huge difference to the $400/500/600.00.00  payment for services to my petrol vehicle - even my hybrid petrol/electric car!

*  Just another reason for being so happy about choosing to go electric!!

* AND DON"T BELIEVE A WORD OF WHAT WAS SAID ON ABC TV ON MONDAY NIGHT ABOUT HOW FEW SECOND-HAND ELECTRIC CARS THERE ARE FOR SALE!!

* Looking for a BIRTHDAY/SPECIAL present for your children or grandchildren??

* Want something that gets them engaged with issues of natural environments and sustainable living??

* Something to help them understand the effects of climate change on our birds, animals and plants??

* Get them reading some wonderful high quality stories??

** WELL! HERE ARE SOME BOOKS FROM SOME OF AUSTRALIA'S BEST AUTHORS & ILLUSTRATORS !

* WEREN'T ABLE TO GET TO 'SUSTAINABLE FUTURES DAY' - St Ives Village Green - 30th September, 2023??    Well, no worries!  Now you can see what happened - and listen to all the speakers!

* Just go to - netzero.krg.nsw.gov.au/Community-Hub/Sustainable-Futures-Day,2023

‘CLIMATE HUSTLING!’    IS THIS AUSTRALIA’S INTERNATIONAL CLIMATE ACTION SHAME?!

The following is based on an article written by Polly Hemming, Director, Climate & Energy Program, The Australia Institute.

Polly attended the recent United Nations Climate Ambition Summit in New York. The Summit is an important opportunity for talks on climate action by countries, prior to COP28 in December.

TRY AND MAKE SOME SENSE OF THESE TWO LATEST PIECES OF NEWS!

1.  In the post-colonial period after World War Two, special rights were granted to international investors to compensate them for losses of income or future income because of decisions made by governments in the countries of their investments.  It is known as the 'investor-state dispute settlement' or ISDS.
