Electrifying Bradfield

Electrifying Bradfield is about doing what we can to support adoption of renewable energy within the Upper North Shore. We have a vision of a cleaner, cheaper energy future made possible by the electrification of our  houses and transport. This vision is heavily influenced by Saul Griffiths and 'Rewiring Australia'.

Electrifying Bradfield works mainly using volunteer time. Contributing $50 goes a long way to helping us run solar information nights, attend markets and fairs and provide educational materials.

Note that Electrifying Bradfield is a not-for-profit, although not a certified charity (DGR).

  • Carbon Credits are the main strategy used by the Australian government to penalise the biggest carbon emitters- namely the fossil-fuel companies mining and using coal and gas (like Santos and Woodside)-  and make them pay for not reducing their emissions!
  • Mining and production companies and projects already operating and those in planning that are unable - or unwilling- to meet their emission levels established by the government have to buy 'green' Carbon Credits to offset the emissions they produce.

GOOD NEWS!

* 'Rewiring Australia' - independent not-for-profit organisation headed by Dr Saul Griffith that aims to 'electrify everything with renewable energy' has just released a proposal for a no-cost installation of rooftop solar energy systems and storage batteries for 11 million households owned and rented in Australia!  [see Rewiring Australia/EELS for video and details]

* EELS stands for 'Electrify Everything Loans Scheme'

* In brief the EELS proposal to Federal government works like this:

* 'We are living in a sea of microplastics!     Microplastics are in our food, our drinks, our oceans, our homes AND US!!

* This is the increasingly serious finding of latest research.  Microplastics have been found in the Arctic, in the deepest ocean trenches, in land and sea animals, fish and birds  - it is estimated there 14 million tonnes of microplastic on our oceans floors! - mainly from decomposing plastic bags and containers thrown mindlessly into the seas, lakes, rivers and oceans of the world!

Recent research into household dust, petrochemically produced plastics and petrol and oil driven transport reveals more reasons why we need to stop mining and using fossil fuels and quickly convert to renewably generated electricity. Doing this will make both us and our Earth and its natural environments healthier!   Here are some of the reasons!
