* ACT GOVERNMENT HAS PASSED AUSTRALIA'S FIRST LAW PROHIBITING THE USE OF FOSSIL GAS IN HOMES BUSINESSES!
*The Law 'Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Reduction (Natural Gas Transition) Amendment Bill' passed on Thursday 8th June,2023 establishes the legal framework to end NEW gas connections before 2045 in the ACT.
* REGULATION IS EXPECTED TO BE IN PLACE BY THE END OF 2023 PROHIBITING NEW GAS CONNECTIONS IN RESIDENCES AND COMMERCIAL AREAS IN ANY NEW SUBURB OR INFILL DEVELOPMENTS.
* ALL ELECTRICITY IN ACT ALREADY IS GENERATED FROM 100% RENEWABLES WHICH HAS PROTECTED RESIDENTS BIG INCREASES IN POWER BILLS!
* Converting energy sources in Australia to electricity generated 100% from renewable sources [using rooftop solar and battery storage and community solar and wind] is one of the fastest and cheapest ways to cut emissions and reduce energy prices. (see Saul Griffith, 'Rewiring Australia' / 'The Big Switch', Black Inc,2022).
* The disconnection from gas will take place over 20 years with electric appliances replacing gas as they break down. The 20 year transition gives with plenty of time for residents to transition and disconnections and new connections to take place.
* BUT! ACT consumers, particularly new builders and renovators are already making the change because of the high costs of gas!
